PROtocols for information Models librariEs Tested on HEritage of Upper Kama Sites

The conformity of constructive elements and technological modules applied in Upper Kama architectural sites highlights a critical analysis not limited to the pilot area, but visible in the architectural heritage of all European Cultural Routes. The classification of Cultural Heritage Routes (ICOMOS 16th General Assembly “Charter on Cultural Routes”), encouraged in recent years towards management and enhancement programs across political boundaries, leads to the identification of wide cultural basins: Spanish pilgrimage routes, Moorish architecture in Andalusia, the industrial archaeology of Rhine valley, the network of Charterhouses between France and Italy are only some possible examples of architectural basins interested by unique cultural and historical phenomena extended at the territorial scale. The necessary unified management highlights, as methodological input, the recognition of features and values of connection between physically distant but culturally joint sites, supported by “tangible elements that bear witness to their cultural heritage and provide a physical confirmation of their existence”. Thus, geographical boundaries help to shape Cultural Heritage Routes, determining their path or their development over time, but they cannot limit their cultural phenomenon, which has been assimilated in the methodology of analysis and synthesis to other typological contexts. On a scientific level, PROMETHEUS will develop an information/cognitive three-dimensional system, multidisciplinary and implementable, which will represent the preparatory step for the management (restoration, conservation and maintenance) of existent Cultural/Architectural Heritage Routes. The system, in order to be widely applicable, has to be fast, low cost, easy to use and to replicate; this will be obtained thanks to the massive use of no-expensive technological instruments (as photographic cameras) for implementable survey operations, certified and diffused 3D modelling platforms. Through this system, potential market opportunities will arise for the non-academic participants (in relation to the development and application of operating protocols for building modelling and interventions methods), and they will significantly benefit European society/culture. Furthermore, the action will lead to advances in the current knowledge of Upper Kama architectural heritage, and to the development of a programmatic “Charta” of Documentation-for-Intervention applicable on European Cultural Heritage Routes. Thanks to the transfer of knowledge among the disciplines involved, PROMETHEUS will pursue the following specific objectives of strengthening researchers’ and professionals’ skills with activities aimed at developing real and remote interdisciplinary actions and tools, for a common language and methodology necessary to implement Collaborative Models Management Systems.
