STop Obesity Platform

There are now more Overweight/People with Obesity (PwO) globally than normal-weight people are, with one in eight of the world's adult population classified as obese in 2014. If projected to 2025, global obesity levels are set to reach 18% in men and surpass 21% in women. The cost of obesity is estimated at $2 trillion equivalent to 2.8 percent of the world’s economic output. In fact, obesity is a major risk factor for a number of chronic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancer, whereat the work on Obesity Care related topics is highly connected to further urgent health-related challenges. Therefore, the work in Obesity Care requires a broad range of skills and knowledge from academia and industry. The STOP project brings together an interdisciplinary and intersectoral group of subject matter experts from industry and academia under one umbrella, to address the health societal challenge of obesity with the specific objectives of mitigating the enormous and growing Health Care costs of obesity and related health issues that burden European citizens. Within the project runtime, the following research and innovation objectives will be addressed: o Establishing a data and Knowledge Ecosystem as a basis for the STOP Portal to enable healthcare professionals in decision support, and obese persons in analysis and feedback of health information to optimise healthy nutrition. o Provision of exposed interfaces to capture additional personal exercise and nutrition information and provide intelligent interactive communication with users. Process and manage streamed health data from PwO. o Access to information from a broad range of relevant knowledge bases to support the decision-making of healthcare professionals.
