Fascinating World of Researchers in the Age of Technology – Mission of Researchers to Expand New Horizons
The main objectives of “FAWORIT 2020”, the European Researchers’ Night in Hungary in 2020, were: o demystify science for students, general public and empower non-scientists to more comfortably and accurately assess science and technology issues; o show the public how innovative solutions, new products, services, inventions affect our daily lives; o present the creators of these innovative solutions: the researchers, their work and career, their personalities, daily life and hobbies to support their public recognition; o involving young innovators in our programmes - encouraging the youth – with a special focus on girls – to embark on scientific careers; o increase awareness of research and innovation activities and sustain the interest of students for scientific careers o capture public imagination and involvement of the citizens into the programmes of the NIGHT allowing them a better understanding of the benefits of R&I. The thematic awareness raising (Brain Star, Fake News, targeted Facebook ads, etc.) will ensure this goal as well as local organization and awareness raising of the venues; o raise awareness of the European engagement in the field of research and innovation and better understanding of the European Union among the general public through three dedicated European Corners and smaller EU Booths at each venue to make the EU and its R&I policy and programmes more visible for all citizens. Our visitors’ numbers increased from year to year, and as we attracted this year more than 23.870 people, and with the strong communication strategy we could reached about 1,000,000 people with our message. More than 620 researchers were involved in the activities, 20 of these benefitted from MSC schemes and 40 of these benefitted from EU support (FP7, H2020) other than MSCA.

Project objective
The main objective of our proposal is to present researchers from several aspects in order to get them closer to the general public and to encourage the youth, especially girls, to embark on scientific careers. We will apply a mission-oriented, impact-focused approach in our project in which interdisciplinary challenges, innovative solutions; researchers, their work and hobbies will be presented in an interactive, educating and entertaining way to stimulate the interest of citizens towards R&I, and to bring it closer to their expectations and concerns. A special attention will be given to the role of R&I in discovery and supporting European growth and prosperity, societal relevance of EU research policy and stakeholder involvement from society. Pre- & follow-up events will be organised, dissemination activities will maintain after the project lifetime in order to sustain the interest raised. The involvement of many different actors across various disciplines and sectors will achieve a high impact and make researchers’ work familiar to various age groups. Our main target group is students of age 6-26, but we aim to address all age groups with attractive programmes. The target audience can thus discover that both scholars and young innovators are amongst us and being a researcher is cool and creative. Our ambitious but realistic objective is to have at least 30000 visitors on our venues on the two-day event, but a multiple of that number (at least 1000000) will see, hear or read about the NIGHT. Our venues cover the whole country. As the result of the awareness raising campaign several organisations will join the NIGHT, the most important science communication event in Hungary, thus contributing to the multiplication of the number of visitors. We intend to raise awareness of the European engagement in R&I through the participation of H2020 projects with a special focus on MSCAs. In the European Corners and at each venue related programmes of the EU will be visible.
