Project objective

The LEAPS ULTRAFAST Programme presents an unparalleled opportunity for 57 postdoctoral researchers to engage in groundbreaking research and advanced training across renowned international research facilities in the field of Ultrafast Science. DESY and its partners within the League of European Accelerator-based Photon Sources (LEAPS) offer a unique combination of research tools, especially in terms of table-top and large-scale light sources, enabling the decoding of matter at the smallest length scale and the fastest time scale.Fellowships will be offered at eight excellent facilities located in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. The manifold synergies among the LEAPS ULTRAFAST partners will be employed to train the next generation of scientists. Fellows will be guided to leverage the full potential of European light-source facilities while transferring knowledge and stimulating innovation. The competitiveness of European research and technology rely on the education and career development of these experts, both in Academia and Industry.The training programme offers Fellows broad guidance both for their own scientific project and for the next career steps—be it in academia, industry or founding a start-up company. It focuses on i) their scientific progress and prospects, ii) transferable skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, and iii) modern safety courses. A pool of carefully selected supervisors and mentors, equipped with modern mentoring tools, will support the Fellows. The outcome of this programme will be a modern and sustainable career and training platform that will benefit many research infrastructures in Europe. The professional and personal development of the Fellows will also be sustainably driven towards their individual goals. Supporting Organisations from Industry and Academia will provide excellent opportunities for secondments and customized trainings to the Fellows.
