Project objective

The MATERIALIZE project aims to establish a competitive, inclusive, and interdisciplinary postdoctoral training programme in advanced organic optoelectronic materials. Hosted by the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IChO PAN), a leading European research centre in organic chemistry, MATERIALIZE will recruit 15 postdoctoral researchers through a transparent and merit-based process aligned with the European Charter & Code and HR Excellence in Research principles. The scientific focus encompasses the design and synthesis of π-extended organic compounds with tailored photophysical properties for applications in OLEDs, NIR-II imaging, circularly polarized light emitters, and molecular sensors. Despite the growing importance of such materials, progress is hindered by a critical bottleneck: limited synthetic diversity and the over-reliance on a narrow set of reactions. MATERIALIZE addresses this challenge through the development of novel synthetic methodologies that unlock new molecular architectures and functionalities. The programme integrates cutting-edge approaches, including photoredox catalysis, multicomponent reactions, electroorganic synthesis, photomechanochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, and quantum modelling of excited states.MATERIALIZE offers excellent employment conditions, individual Career Development Plans, and personalized training budgets. Fellows will benefit from a structured training programme and secondments with a strong international dimension, involving 12 academic and 3 non-academic partners across 11 countries. This network ensures broad exposure to multidisciplinary expertise and intersectoral collaboration opportunities.By combining frontier research with comprehensive and inclusive career development support, MATERIALIZE aims to empower the next generation of scientific leaders in organic optoelectronic materials and contribute to strengthening Europe's innovation capacity in light-driven technologies.
