The Researchers' Night is itself a Marie Skłodowska-Curie project
The European Researchers' Night on 25 and 26 September 2026 is part of K-TRIO — Researchers in the Knowledge Triangle, a two-year project (15.04.2026 – 14.04.2028) under Horizon Europe, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and Citizens. Admission is free: 170 events at 13 venues in Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Yambol and Burgas.
Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski coordinates it and Forum Science Association (BG Science) leads the communication. The consortium holds 11 organisations and over 30 partners, the Ministry of Education and Science among them.
Across the two years the activities reach at least 15 towns in all six regions of the country, with events in Romania and Moldova as well. The project's motto is “Research and innovation shape our future”.

Project objective
In 2006, Sofia University as EURAXESS bridgehead involved the newly established Bulgarian network in the first Researchers Night (RN). Since then, it organised 16 ERNs, and attracted several new partners from education, research and industry.The K-TRIO objective coincides with the goal of the MSCA & Citizens action: ""to bring research and researchers closer to the public at large, to increase the awareness of R&I activities and to boost public recognition of science and research education"", “to show the role of researchers for science and economy, as well as the impact of researchers’ work on citizens’ daily lives”, and “to raise the interest of young people in research and scientific careers"", as well as the aim of the Researchers at Schools initiative “to strengthen the connection between research and education”.Strategic long-term objectives are: fostering the interest of young talents to STEAM and research career, nurturing a new cultureof creativity, scientific curiosity, innovative spirit and responsibility to environmental preservation, and enhancing the public readiness to engage in Citizens Science, Open Science and Open Innovation activities.The Consortium pays due attention in all pre-events and ERNs on the importance of the ERA and EEA, and their synergy for the European dual transformation and knowledge-based growth. The project will create greater understanding on EU policy, and how R&I contribute for well-being of people and sustainable development, and highlight the common European efforts for bridging global challenges, building Green Economy and Digital Single market, Smart Cities , and take full advantage of Clean Technologies, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, BIG Data and Cloud computing. The already established networking with teachers, schools and STEM centres will become well-structured, and will integrate many researchers in mentoring of students or events in secondary schools and partners universities.""
