Project objective

The proposal ""Science for Growth – Empowering Minds"" (STEPS) aims to strengthen the interaction between science and society by integrating Growth Mindset pedagogy into science communication and education. By combining the two flagship MSCA initiatives — European Researchers’ Night (ERN) and Researchers at Schools — STEPS aims to strengthen the connection between science and society by embedding a Growth Mindset pedagogy into public engagement and school-based science education. Through the integration of the above two flagship initiatives the project promotes scientific literacy, curiosity, resilience, and lifelong learning, particularly among young people and underrepresented communities. By combining STEM with the Arts (STEAM) and Social Sciences, STEPS highlights the creative, interdisciplinary nature of research and demonstrates its relevance to everyday life. The project will deliver interactive science festivals, hands-on Growth Mindset Learning Labs in schools, and researcher-led workshops focused on critical issues such as the Green Deal, digital transformation, health, and social inclusion. Gender equality and inclusivity are embedded throughout the project, ensuring a balanced participation and the dismantling of stereotypes that limit access to research careers. During the 24 months, STEPS will engage more than 12,000 citizens in ERN activities, reach at least 5,000 students and 200 teachers through Learning Labs, involve over 200 researchers, and produce more than 40 open educational and outreach materials. The project also includes comprehensive training for researchers, robust evaluation mechanisms, and sustainability planning to ensure long-term impact. By fostering trust in science, inspiring diverse learners, and promoting EU research’s societal value, STEPS contributes to the Horizon Europe’s goals of increasing science capital, enhancing public engagement, and reducing underachievement in basic skills below 15% by 2030.""
