Project objective

inHos – Integrating Hospitals into the Science–Society Dialogue is a bottom-up science outreach initiative that begins where science meets everyday life: in a large public hospital serving a diverse population. Its mission is to transform the hospital into a space for scientific engagement, bringing biomedical research closer to society through inspiring, inclusive and hands-on activities targeting young people, families, school communities and vulnerable groups.At the heart of inHos lies the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (HUiPLAFE) and its research institute IIS La Fe, a leading biomedical and healthcare institution in Valencia (Spain). As a teaching hospital linked to two major universities, it uniquely connects research, clinical practice and education offering a fertile ground to foster curiosity, trust and future STEAM vocations.By anchoring the European Researchers’ Night (ERN) and Researchers at Schools (R@S) in this setting, inHos reimagines the hospital as a space not only of healing but of learning and empowerment. The project will activate existing infrastructures and human capital researchers, clinicians, educators, patient associations and municipalities to create sustained and inclusive pathways for citizen engagement with science.inHos will organise two large-scale ERN events (in flood-affected municipalities and in Valencia city), develop year-round R@S activities, ensure accessibility and gender balance, and collect evidence on public perceptions and social impact. It will also produce an open toolkit for hospital-based outreach and visibility materials featuring EU-funded researchers.Ultimately, inHos positions hospitals as beacons of knowledge and dialogue, demonstrating how European research directly supports health, resilience and social cohesion across communities.
