Project objective
The industrial shop floor is a comprehensive cyberphysical domain where numerous purpose-specific resource-constrained assets (machinery, equipment, edge devices, workers, passive components) perform concurrent, modular and highly complex tasks (welding, assembly, visual inspection, quality control, predictive maintenance, packaging, etc.) in view higher-level missions, e.g., deliver a final product, comply to production standards, safeguard worker safety. According to the World Economic Forum, fair yet secure access to product lifecycle data will have transformative effects across the industrial value chain, creating a significant economic impact (about $100B) and societal footprint (data sovereignty, product/process visibility, AI explainability). Current literature and market lacks the necessary skilled workforce and technological toolsets to format, monitor, share and leverage the continuous strands of data connecting each stage of the product lifecycle, a.k.a., digital threads. Besides, existing traceability approaches primarily focus on tracking the Material of products, completely neglecting actionable data on all 4Ms affecting the product lifecycle: Men, Method, Machine, Material. The action ECHO 5.0 will harness the potential of mission-oriented semantics-aware 6G edge/clouds, 3D representation/ reconstruction of ultra-high-resolution and blockchain-backed data security and governance, to foster a comprehensive technological framework for the secure sharing of I5.0-ready immersive digital threads of 4M data; thus, creating a sustainable, resilient, self-sovereign and open I5.0 data market that provides actionable data to innovators.
