Project objective
Reconnecting Science with the Blue Society - Blue-connect 3.0 builds upon the legacy of the previous Blue-connect and Blue-connect 2.0 initiatives to deepen the relationship between science, citizens, and the Mediterranean environment. Coordinated by the University of Split, with partners from five coastal universities and leading research institutes, the project engages citizens, educators, and researchers through the European Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools initiatives.The project’s primary goal is to seamlessly integrate scientific research, public awareness, and environmental sustainability while fostering a deeper understanding of the Mediterranean’s unique ecological and societal challenges.Focusing on themes vital to Mediterranean life—healthy oceans, climate action, sustainable food systems, and societal transformation - Blue-connect 3.0 promotes scientific literacy, highlights the societal relevance of scientific work and champions inclusivity and gender balance. Its bottom-up approach—implemented through the Teacher-Ambassador Network and cooperation with civil-society organisations—enables communities to co-create research-based activities and experience science as accessible, engaging, and relevant. Through interactive workshops, citizen-science sessions, media outreach, and educational campaigns, the project promotes ocean literacy, sustainable lifestyles, and active citizenship. Through awareness campaigns, interactive workshops, citizen-science initiatives, and follow-up events, the project will reach diverse audiences making science visible and relatable. Blue-connect 3.0 will leverage the recognisable “I explore” brand. By fostering long-term engagement, empowering educators, and showcasing research as a driver of progress, Blue-connect 3.0 contributes to the wider impacts of the MSCA and Citizens programme by enhancing trust in science, nurturing curiosity, and shared scientific culture.
