Project objective
Circular Power Electronics Converters design: Power electronics play key roles in addressing some severe challenges our societies are facing today, such as global warming and sustainable development, because they enable efficient conversion, utilisation and control of electrical energy across nearly all industry sectors, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy dependence on fossil fuels. However, as demand for power electronics technologies grows, so does the environmental footprint associated with their production and disposal. To tackle the environmental challenge, the vision of the proposed CPEC Doctor Network (DN) is to advance our knowledge in circular design principles for power electronics converters, and timely build a new generation of researchers capable of transforming the way power electronics are designed, used, and recovered to support a truly sustainable energy transition. CPEC aims to bridge the gaps between electrical engineering, materials science, environmental science, economics, and policies to create a holistic approach for circular power electronics systems, from eco-design and lifetime extension strategies towards repair and advanced end-of-life recovery. The DN aims to develop interdisciplinary innovative technologies, design methodologies, and policy frameworks that enable low environment-impact, resource-efficient, repairable and recyclable power electronic converters.
