Project objective

The GENERATE programme aims to attract and retain top research talent in Europe by introducing an innovative fellowship scheme anchored in Regenerative Futures-a forward-thinking vision for interdisciplinary research addressing societal and technological challenges. Moving beyond sustainability, this approach promotes systems thinking and collaboration to enable human and natural systems to thrive. Hosted by RMIT EU in Barcelona, the programme leverages RMIT Uni’s global reputation and scientific excellence in regenerative research, ranked among the world’s leading institutions in architecture and design. Embedded in Catalonia’s dynamic innovation ecosystem and supported by a wide network of partners, GENERATE offers fellows a fertile environment for long-term career prospects.Six experienced postdoctoral researchers will join one of four interconnected clusters, Health Futures, Cities & Communities, Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructures, and Culture & Creative Practice, leading projects that address pressing societal needs. Fellows will benefit from dual supervision, structured secondments (including to Australia), and a comprehensive training programme designed to build autonomy, leadership, and transferable skills. Activities include project leadership, mentoring of PhD and MSc students, interdisciplinary collaboration, and participation in flagship events such as the Practice and Research Symposium.Aligned with the European Charter for Researchers and the Council Recommendation on talent attraction, GENERATE strengthens research capacity through two-way knowledge exchange, supports institutional reform in research assessment, and enhances Europe’s global visibility. By fostering long-term integration of fellows into the Catalan and Spanish research systems and promoting innovative methodologies, GENERATE contributes to regional socio-economic priorities and positions Europe at the forefront of regenerative research practices.
