Project objective
Da Vinci is a 72-month MSCA Choose Europe for Science postdoctoral programme that trains a new generation of researchers who combine deep biological insight with advanced AI and data-science skills. Hosted by IMBA at the Vienna BioCenter and co-funded by the EU and institutional partners, the Da Vinci is a 72-month MSCA Choose Europe Postdoctoral Programme that trains a new generation of researchers who combine deep biological insight with advanced AI and data-science skills. Hosted by IMBA at the Vienna BioCenter and cofunded by the EU and institutional partners, the programme focuses on AI-enabled, multi-scale modelling of genomes, organoids and brain-like systems in health and disease.Da Vinci pursues three objectives: (1) deliver ground-breaking research that links state-of-the-art organoid, single-cell, spatial omics and imaging platforms with cutting-edge AI and deep learning; (2) provide fellows with long, stable and attractive postdoctoral careers in Europe through five-year, multi-mentor fellowships with strong data stewardship, open-science and ethics training; and (3) strengthen Europe’s capacity in quantitative life sciences by creating durable links between IMBA, European universities, research infrastructures, hospitals and biotech/AI companies.The objectives will be achieved through an AI-Enabled Iterative Science approach in which AI models guide experimental design, structured secondments to academic and non-academic partners, and a comprehensive training and career-development programme aligned with the European Charter for Researchers and the reform of research assessment.Da Vinci directly addresses the MSCA Choose Europe work programme by improving the quality, attractiveness and sustainability of postdoctoral careers, filling skills gaps at the AI-biology interface, promoting excellent working conditions and gender-sensitive, inclusive recruitment, and making Vienna and its partners a visible European hub for AI-enabled foundational biology.
