Project objective

MOBILITY (MOlecular BIodiscovery for Life sciences InTerdiscplinarY innovation) tackles the escalating brain-drain crisis in the European Union, where many of the most promising early-career researchers are relocating to countries such as the United States and China. In the UK, the impacts of Brexit have introduced further uncertainty, disrupted research collaborations, and intensified outward migration. MOBILITY directly addresses these challenges by offering an exceptional interdisciplinary research environment, highly competitive salaries that support an excellent quality of life, comprehensive personalised career development, and strong prospects for long-term employment. The programme also contributes to post-Brexit re-integration of the UK into the European research landscape. Europe faces a critical skills deficit: over 130,000 highly trained scientists will be needed in the next decade, yet current training pipelines are misaligned with interdisciplinary demands. MOBILITY responds by appointing six postdoctoral fellows to the University of Birmingham for five-year positions (3+2 years), equipping them with advanced expertise in Molecular Biodiscovery. Fellows will lead frontier, applicant-driven research on molecular regulators, complex pathways, and next-generation bioactive compounds and diagnostics, within a world-class ecosystem spanning clinical, industrial, and policy partners. Recruitment follows open, merit-based procedures aligned with the European Charter for Researchers and MSCA principles, supported by tailored career development and a dedicated Researcher Academic Development Programme.By strengthening Europe’s talent pipeline, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and promoting diversity, MOBILITY accelerates the transition from discovery to application and reinforces Europe’s leadership in molecular biodiscovery.
