Project objective

Despite significant investments of resources, policies, global partnerships and social and financial efforts in the fight against cancer, we are currently still unable to achieve long-term disease control for patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NET). Moreover, despite the emphasis of both Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the European Initiative on Rare Cancers on advancing research and innovation in rare tumors, only limited progress has been made in the field of NET over the last decade. Particularly, the transformative waves of immunotherapy success across oncology have not yet reached NET. By bringing together experts in NET biology, pioneers in immuno-oncology research, clinicians from NET expert centers, patient advocates, and representatives of the public health sector, dIscOverNET will lead to outstanding interdisciplinary and intersectoral research. This dynamic and synergistic collaboration, will explore the potential of leveraging the immune system for the treatment of NETs, which might be able to induce durable anti-tumor responses and cure NETs. Through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary training program aligned with European doctoral training principles, the dIscOverNET doctoral candidates will be equipped to take on leading roles in European industry, academia, or government.
