Project objective
The degree to which neuronal phenotype in the developing spinal cord is progressively restricted by environmental signals is poorly understood. I intend to investigate this problem by examining targeted deletions of the NK1 gene in mice. This gene has been implicated in a particular aspect of the neuronal development such as the dorsoventral patterning of the neural tube and axon guidance across the midline. Embryos will be analysed using immunochemical, in situ hybridisation and dye tracing techniques, and in vivo approaches will be complemented by in vitro analysis after pharmaco logycal manipulation using spinal cord explants in collagen gels and roller culture of postimplantation embryos.
