Project objective
The objective is a complete numerical tool for analysing fibre-reinforced brittle matrix composite materials and structures. The tool is a set of computer programs that can be used in designing and comparing different composite materials, or analysing general structures using the finite element method. A doctoral thesis and scientific papers will be published about the research. Contents: The uniaxial model developed by the applicant will be refined. The effects of different parameters on the cracking, strength and ductility will be studied using the model. The model will then be incorporated in the finite element program DIANA available at TUD. An automatic routine for discrete crack element generation will be developed. Example structures will be tested and analysed. The numerical model will then be verified compared with experimental results.
