Policy-making and regulation for a European multimedia industry - the legal and socio-technical issues

Project objective

The growth in Multimedia technologies, products and services has led to convergences within and between previously separated sectors of the information and communication industries. This has raised new legal and socio-technical challenges for which current policy frameworks are inappropriate. There is a need for new legal and technical structures to facilitate the development of an equitable information society. For success solutions must be developed at the supra-national level where policy-makers, business representatives, academics and social groups can interact to provide innovative solutions. In order to complement existing research and facilitate the development of new approaches to these issues it will be important to gain further training in the legal problems of Multimedia and to benefit from the legal and inter-disciplinary expertise at C.R.I.D. It is also important to have an opportunity to analyse directly, European Union policy processes and interview policy-makers.
