Project objective
This proposal focuses on studying the feasibility of using superconducting finite antidot lattices of mesoscopic dimension as elements of a new single flux quantum logic. The 2x2 antidot arrays half filled by flux lines will be examined as the unit cell. The repulsion between the magnetic flux lines in the cells results in two bistable states and therefore binary transmission can be considered. A detailed study of the transport properties of the antidot lattices will be initially performed and the switching between its two bistable states will be analysed. Bilayer structures will be grown to investigate the possibilities of this quantum logic. The cells will be patterned in the top layer while the 'read and write' elements will be placed in the bottom layer. The new mesoscopic SQUID without weak links, developed by VSM at K.U. Leuven, will be tested as a non-interfering 'read' element.
