Project objective
The field of mechanochemistry of metals, metal alloys, oxidic phases and composites is extremely active both internationally and nationally. It must be noticed that some solid state reactions which would require very high-temperatures can be induced at room temperature by mechanical treatment. This project is devoted to the understanding of mechanism of solid state reactions and of the various environmental factors that influence the elaboration by thermal and mechanical treatments. The aim of this project is to built the necessary knowledge in thermodynamics, kinetics and chemical reactions which is required to control the structure/microstructure and properties of the final product. We have chosen three systems with potential technical applications. They are: 1) zircone and Y,Ca or Mg-doped zircone; 2) metal reinforced oxide composites (A1203/Ni, TiO2/Ni); and 3) titanium nitride phases. We will specially focus our attention on a new and promising elaboration method which associate the milling of precursors and the subsequent thermal treatment.
