Project objective
Extraction of the Gluon Density in the Proton from Exclusive Vector Meson Production in Electron Proton Scattering. This project proposes the study of exclusive vector meson production in electron-proton interactions with the ZEUS experiment at HERA. This study will be carried out in collaboration with the ZEUS group of Imperial College London. Since several theoretical models predict the cross section for this process to depend on the square of the gluon density in the proton, the aim of this study is the determination of the gluon density in a new and interesting kinematical region. Work on the development of a novel readout system to be used in the CMS experiment a LHC will also be performed.
