High energy studies of star formation in extra-galactic context

Project objective

A great variety of starforming regions is encountered among the extragalactic objects. Recently it has become possible to study such regions at X-rays with appreciable spatial and spectral resolution. At these high energies interesting information can be retrieved about the evolving stellar population and its interaction with the ambient Interstellar Medium. The interpretation of such data will be undertaken with sophisticated computer simulations. a novel approach is to develop a population synthesis programme that monitors the X-ray active phases for each individual star(and each binary) etc., plus considers interaction with Interstellar Medium while the stellar population evolves. To prepare cases for comparison with computer simulation, an observational study will be undertaken, largely by means of Archival Research. The main emphasis is on X-rays but complementary data in other waveband will be included (IR, optical). The result will be a deeper understanding of several important issues regarding starformation.
