Project objective
A Coherent Source of Narrowband Tunable Soft X-Ray Radiation The aim of this research project is to develop and provide a laser source of tunable coherent soft X-ray radiation in the wavelength range 25-60nm. This source overcomes the well known drawbacks of synchrotrons and fs-lasers, producing sub-ns pulses of both high spectral energy density and narrow spectral bandwidth instead. Key feature of the scheme presented is a temporal compression of high energy ns-pulses resulting in sub-ns pulses suited to achieve efficient frequency up-conversion via generation of multiple harmonics in rare gas. Applications of this tunable soft X-ray source are found in various research fields of strong present-day interest in physics, chemistry and biology, in which a narrow bandwidth of the X-ray radiation is mostly important.
