Project objective

Superconductors imbeded in a magnetic field can only transport a dissipation free electric current as long as the induced flux line system remain static. Since high temperature superconductors are operated at elevated temperature thermal fluctuations are of paramount importance. The current project will make use of computer simulations in order to obtain a better understanding of the connection between the observed magnetization and creep rates and the properties of the flux system at given field, temperature, anisotropy, and pinning disorder. Hitherto the flux system has often been characterized in terms of its equilibrium phases. The magnetization and creep are, however, inherently non-equlibrium properties. It is accordingly important to develope a description which directly incorporate the out-of-equlibrium aspects of the measurements. The results of the computer simulations and connected phenomenological modeling will be juxtaposed the equivalent experimental data.
