Project objective
This proposal is concerned with the development of methods and tools for nonlinear signal processing. The objectives are 1. Contribution to the advancement of theory in the area of nonlinear signal processing and system identification 2. Development of efficient nonlinear signal processing algorithms 3. Design of highly parallel architectures and VLSI array processors for enchanced processing capabilities 4. Assess relative merits and weaknesses in the context of a specific application. An integrated algorithmic environment for nonlinear signal processing and system identification will ultimately be developed, embracing algorithms featuring reduced computational complexity and memory needs, high degree of parallelism and rapid tracking capabilities. Parallel implementations will be tested and evaluated on a massively parallel machine. VLSI array processors will be designed, and the silicon area and power requirements will be analysed. The channel equalization of nonlinear communication links will be the test field for the evaluation of the overall performance of the algorithms to be developed.
