Perspectives of trade between the European community and china. An econometric analysis

Project objective

China is likely to become a major player in the world economy within the next years. Her booming foreign trade has already given rise both to concern and euphona. This thesis intends to explain and torecast the development of trade between Western Europe and modern China. Several explanatory hypotheses derived from economic theory and/or empirical evidence will be tested and integrated into a multi-factor econometric model. This model should allow medium-term previsions of trade flows between China and the Community by product groups and member countries respectively. Insofar as detailed case study work on the national level is necessary, France and Germany will serve as examples in this multilateral approach. Economic opportunities and risks resulting from China's entry into the world economy should become clear both for national and EC decision-makers. Economic policy recommandations can eventually be deducted from this.
