Project objective

Presently, my work under the HCM contract ERBCHBGCT930470 is concerned with the study of aspects of the dynamical fermion problem. It is based on a paper by Salmhofer who demonstrated the exact equivalence of the one-flavour strong coupling lattice Schwinger model with Wilson fermions to a self-avoiding loop model. I have successfully applied the above exact equivalence to obtain previously unknown information about the critical behaviour of the strong coupling Schwinger model. The method of Salmhofer however can equally be applied to strong coupling QED with any number of flavours as well to any purely fermionic system with Wilson fermions in any dimension. Presently, I further investigate the case of strong coupling QED. The objective of the proposed project consequently is to study the method of Salmhofer for purely fermionic systems. The project will shed new light on the dynamical fermion problem.
