Isolation and genetic characterisation of new actin binding proteins in the drosophila embryo

Project objective

The aim of this project is to investigate the molecular events associated with morphogenesis during Drosophila gastrulation. Specifically, the role of actin binding proteins in cell shape changes will be studied. Molecular biology approaches will be developed from epitope display techniques to quickly and efficiently isolate genes encoding novel actin binding proteins based on the affinity of the proteins for F-actin. Subsequently, their function will be examined, and ultimately, mutants will be isolated and analysed genetically.
