Project objective

Time - gated holography is a fast growing research field of Optical Imaging with important biomedical applications. The proposed research project presents a high potential in the future of the applicability of time - gated holography technique to biomedical imaging. This project is aiming to provide training and promote innovation towards imaging through turbid media, as well as the development of ultrafast lasers. In a first phase the project is concerned witl the building of a prototype apparatus, based on the time - gated holography technique, and evaluate it in a clinical environment. Parallel work will be done towards the development of a compact all-solid-state diode-pumped laser for the use of the apparatus. A further target is to investigate novel aspects related to imaging through thicker tissues. The image technology that is proposed represents an important potential application of laser systems and imaging expertise.
