Project objective

The aim of this proposal is the study of the dynamics of large organic and organometallic compounds which show a strong photoluminescence and a large Stoke's shift. After an initial excitation the systems present ultrafast processes of different nature and time scale from hundreds of femtoseconds to tens of nanoseconds. We plan to perform time resolved measurements on an ultrafast time scale (femtoseconds to picoseconds) applying both fluorescence up-conversion techniques and transient absorption methods. In particular our goal is to study the excited-state dynamics of large molecules (like DCM, DASPI, fluoroprobe, chelated d6 transition metal ions) in different solvents (polar and apolar liquids) and sol-gel glasses in order to test the main differences in intramolecular relaxation time between liquid and solid surroundings.
