Project objective
The design of calibrators - the cooled metal blocks that solidify and fix the cross-section of complex extrusions such as PVC window and door profiles, rubber sealing strips, etc. - is difficult, besause it must take into account cooLing rates, shrinkage and thermal stress development. The objective is to provide a computer aid for callibrator design by: 1. Setting up a detailed mathematical model of calibration. 2. Implementing this using finite element methods. 3. Carrying out material characterisation, and experimental trials to assist with model development and validation, at the premises of the collaborating Company.
