Project objective
In the frame work of an earlier EC-research project we investigated the syntheses and structures of various main-group (ansa)-metallocene complexes. Especially the investigations on a novel group of metallocene complexes, anionic alkalimetallocenes, have been rewarding. In the course of our research we isolated a hitherto unseen complex of a main-group metal with a neutral alkene functionality. Such metal-alkene coordination complexes are generally accepted to be intermediates in the nucleophilic addition of polar organometallic compounds to alkenes. These results call for a more advanced investigation of main-group metal-alkene coordination. In the hereby requested continuation of our EC-project we will investigate the coordination chemistry of neutral alkenes and Group I/II metallocenes, using all available techniques like high-pressure IR spectroscopy, calculational methods, NMR and X-ray diffraction. The results of the proposed research will not only be of academic interest but will also be significant for a deeper understanding of alkene polymerization catalyses.
