SYMBIOSIS and DEFENCE IN THE INTERACTION OF PLANTS with MICROORGANI SMS

Project objective

Symbiosis and defence are two basic principles in the interaction of microorganisms with plants. The major objective of the network is to pool more than 60 young scientists from other European countries, most of them from EU member countries (see Appendis I). Several of the participating the expertise of nine laboratories in the fields of microbiology, plant network laboratories have joint publications. The postdocs of the network sciences, cell biology, molecular genetics and molecular phytopathology to study these two phenomena together at a molecular level. So far these two will have the chance to be trained in modern methods as molecular ecology (Finland, Ireland, Spain), immunological methods (UK), cell biological phenomena have been studied mainly in different departments and disciplines: symbiosis in biology department, defence reactions in methods (France, Germany, UK) and molecular genetics (The Netherlands, phytopathology departments. Greece). The network includes laboratories with main-interests in basic research as well as those with a strong emphasis on application. The model organisms studied are Rhizobium/ Bradyrhizobium, arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi and Pseudomonasfluorescens (as antagonist) in the interaction with legumes and other plant families.
