We propose to set up a TMR network that will instigate a coordinated multidisciplinary dissection of the complex signalling pathways that regulate gene activity during cell proliferation and differentiation. We will use: (i) biochemical techniques to analyse enzymatic reactions in signal transduction, (ii) biophysical methods to determine the molecular structures of the signal targets, (iii) genetic approaches in Drosophila melanogaster, Mus musculus, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae to provide novel insights into signal cascades and (iv) molecular studies to understand signal-dependent gene control.
