Project objective

The aim of the proposed research network is to establish and organise, in a expertise within the workgroup of researchers, with special emphasis on formal cooperative status, an active workgroup of researchers in the newly introduced field, of the mobile robotics technology and health care the provision of high level education to the visiting researchers. The services. training content includes courses from Mobile Robotics Technologies, Rehabilitation Technologies and Health Care Services. The courses are Training of young post-doctoral scientists is in the focus of the network, targeting post-doctoral researcher with strong commitment in the field. while it will be project/prototype oriented, offering vertical knowledge of one discipline to scientists of other disciplines. The outcome of the project will be the detailed design of the prototype of an autonomous mobile platform with high maneuverability and manipulability features. This prototype design will be the final deliverable, integrating the innovative, research results. Operational features of the robot will include execution of complicated manipulation and transport tasks, in fully autonomous operation. The behaviour of the robot will be optimised for indoor health care tasks. The network will address a wide range of topics beyond the state of the art, such as: hierarchical task planning, intelligence distribution and organisation, real time control of multi joint/wheels robots, path planning and obstacle avoidance methods for structures with complicated kinematics constraints, sensor fusion of 1D to 3D information, environment perception, representation and modelling techniques, adaptive man-machine interface, etc. The proposed network is consisting of 12 partners from 9 European countries. There is delegation from research teams both fully devoted in mobile robotics technologies and/or health care services. The participation of industrial partners was considered necessary for having in the network a direct feedback of industrial potentials of the research activities performed.
