Implementation of concepts and methods from non-commutative geometr y to operator algebra and its applications in mathematical analysis and quantum physics

Project objective

Most of the proposed funding will be used to support young researchers at mathematics, interacting not only with neighbouring fields (foliations, post-doctoral level through a programmeof exchanges between the various index theory, K-theory, cyclic cohomology, affine Kac-Moody algebras, teams in the network. quantum groups and manifold in variants) but also having applications in theoretical physics (integrable theories, statistical mechanics, conformal field theory and the string theory of elementary particles). The realisation underlying this success is that a non-commutative concept of geometry and topology can be imposed on most classical spaces. The implementation of this program, which has found its most exhaustive form in A.Connes' recent monograph, will be the ultimate goal. A well-established network, comprising the leading European researchers in the field, will work on various aspects of this program, with particular emphasis on guidance and training of the next generation.
