Project objective
Research objectives and content The field of large-scale collective motion of atomic nuclei" such as fusion is of utmost importance in Nuclear Physics. Recently, the interest has been boosted by the successfull synthesis of element 110 and 111, the availability of new powerful instruments like the neutron detector DEMON and the emergence of exotic beams already available or soon to become available, particularly in Europe (France, Germany, Russia, Italy). The proposed work take advantage of the recent experimental and theoritical opportunities to study characteristics of the fusion process and in particular those related to structural effects. Innovating results are ensured by the problems addressed, the experimental method and the new theoritical support. Analysis of the obtained and expected data, using conventionnal methods and a "neural network" approach, is already on stage or in preparation at CRN, Strasbourg which is in charge of this subject in a international collaboration devoted to fusion-fission studies. Next expriments will be conducted in France,in Russia and in United States. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) - work in a international collaboration (practice of English) - use of large-scale setups including software controlled VXI electronics. - development of neural network tools for nuclear physics data analysis - collaboration with theoriticians in data - model comparison.
