Project objective
The goal of the project is the development of a multipurpose, scalable, parallel, high- performance 3D code, evolving both relativistic gravitational fields and hydrodynam- ics, for the study of relativistic astrophysics and gravitational wave astronomy. The code will be obtained by coupling the existing NCSA/AEI efficient vacuum general relativity code to Valencia's group relativistic hydrodynamic code. This project will be one of the first to solve simultaneously both sides of Einstein field equations. For this purpose, it will take advantage of the latest developments in numerical relativity and computational science. This project represents a major step forward to model the evolution of matter in a dynamical 3D spacetime, thereby allowing the study of all components of relativistic astrophysics, including highly dynamic gravitational fields, strong gravitational waves, relativistic fluid motion, and shocks.
