Project objective
Research objectives and content - to quantify, understand and model slope instability in the Alboran Sea, the Cadiz Gulf and the Agadir region. - to evaluate the consequences of the impact of a mass-wasting flow against submarine structures The project is divided into three sections: research, collection and synthesis. The research deals with the geological survey of the study areas. On the one hand this involves obtaining a deep understanding and knowledge of everything referring to sea-floor topography, especially the slope, continental rise and basin provinces (batymetry and failure sediment bodies). This is acquired with advanced geophysical equipment. On the other hand it involves performing all the sedimentological and geotechnical laboratory analyses and tests. The collection of oceanographical data of the specific study areas permits us to evaluate the route of the mass-wasting flows. The gathering of technical information about submarine structures (type, the material they are made of, known damage and preventive measures taken to avoid geological process attack) are essential in order to assess the consequences of the impact The data is synthesized to create a standard model of the geological risk due to the coexistion of submarine structures and instability areas Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) To achieve a high competence in geotechnic and sedimentology fields To create a standard model of the relationship between submarine structures and instability processes To promote the utilization of a very advanced instrument (Multi-Sensor Core Logger) Links with industry/industrial relevance (22) I will consult telephone and oil companies to collect technical information about submarine structures.
