Project objective
Research objectives and content The objective of this project is the study of the heating of the corona and the acceleration of the solar wind in the coronal holes, two crucial problems of solar physics. Coronal holes are the origin of the fast component of the solar wind and also a site of the occurrence of bright points and MHD waves that are two of the most reliable candidates of coronal heating. The project includes three stages: First, we will make observations of the coronal holes with various instruments on board SOHO satellite, (the latest big solar mission) and derive through different diagnostic techniques the values of important physical parameters. Then we will make a statistical analysis of the observations that will determine the importance of the various mechanisms and the validity of the existing theoretical framework and finally we will make the modeling of these structures. The whole project will be greatly assisted from the existence of the European operations and Data center and archive MEDOC at IAS as well as the scientific and technological expertise of IAS. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The impact of this project will be scientific and technological. Not only I will benefit from interacting with experts but also I will have the opportunity to work in a space center something that is not available in my country.
