Project objective

This project aims at improving our knowledge on the response of yeast and important objectives of TMR are met: interaction of disciplines, and plant cells to changes in external osmolarities. We will-employ combination and transfer of technologies. The Institutes to which the Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a microbial model system to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying the osmoresponse and use these findings to partners in this network belong, all take part in graduate schools, thus examine corresponding processes in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. offering ideal opportunities to young visiting researchers for attending the advanced educational programs aimed at improving practical and Particular attention will be paid to the protein kinase cascades and other signalling pathways that are elicited by changes in environmental theoretical skills. The research stays at the expert host laboratories osmolarity. We will study yeast mutants defective in osmosignal will considerably add to the scientific education of the visiting fellows. transduction to elucidate so far unknown components of the osmoresponse and use them to clone corresponding plant genes.
