Project objective
The training content of the network will be based on: A) experiences from computer support and work organisation. A central concern is how to visiting researchers (10) and post-doctoral students (14) for a total of 24 man year. B) internal specific training based on: a) training courses support optimally groups of people working together using complex systems. (2 seminars where highly specialised experts in cognitive science The project will identify the varied contributions and limitations of and CSCW will be invited to give lectures) diverse approaches and explore ways in which we might develop new and b) extensive use of internet support for collaborative work between students distinctive conceptual innovations necessary for understanding and researchers (WWW server, common information database) - collaborative work and designing cooperative technologies. c) scientific meetings (bi-annual workshops) where students will be largely In this project three main objectives are pursued: involved both in terms of organisation and scientific content). I) we seek to overcome the limitations of existing single theoretical disciplinary approaches that have been used for supporting the design of computer systems for single users by advancing inter and transdisciplinary theoretical frameworks and methodologies that would be more appropriate for understanding and designing cooperative technologies for collaborative working, 2) the second objective will be to interrelate theories and methodologies for the design and assessment of systems for collaborative working in complex environment. The aim will be to analyse the way by which advanced artefacts can change, augment and support cooperative work and practices. 3) the third objective of the project seeks to answer to industrial needs by looking at adequate information supports for working and learning environments. Field studies in direst collaboration with organizations and industries will constitute an important part to describe the collaborative working. What is expected from this project is therefore to produce a set of design implications and guidelines for complex collaborative technologies, ranging from interface and interaction issues to the reliability of distributed decision making. It will also provide guidelines for the deployment of innovative collaborative systems in complex organisations.
