Project objective
The research project aims at understanding and predicting changes in behavior and properties of silicon clusters compared to those of the bulk. The applicant will investigate fast and ultra-fast relaxation processes of pure and stabilized clusters and intend to employ electronic, nano-second and femto-second spectroscopies. Allthough the expected results are upstream of any concrete application, they will allow to decide whether the theoretically expected opto-electronics using tiny silicon structures will be possible in the future. As silicon is still the preferred material of the semiconductor industry, many and multi-fold applications can be foreseen.
