Project objective

Research objectives and content Our objectives are to study the electronic and rovibronic structure of high energy lying states of the isotopic lithium hydrides using high resolution multiple resonance spectroscopic techniques. Multiple minima are predicted to exist in the potential energy curves of these states but they have yet to be observed. A two laser excitation scheme will be used to reach the Rydberg states of nLimH. By scarming the second laser and detecting the laser induced fluorescence and/or the ion signal, we will explore those states for the first time. We will also study spim-orbit perturbations that have been predicted to be small and require high spectral resolution, attainable with this scheme. Calculations will be performed for LiH im order to improve existing quantum mechanical methods. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) This work will extend and consolidate my previous experience with single mode dye and Ti:sapphire laser systems, pulses . lasers and ion detection techniques, particularly by working with the frequency doubled high resolution pulsed amplified lasers developed at Lab Aime Cotton. Working with one of the foremost French groups in theoretical calculations for small molecular systems, I will acquire expertise in theoretical molecular physics, which will complete my profile as a molecular spectroscopist.
