Project objective
Research objectives and content The objective of the project is to understand and model the time evolution of mobile radio channels, utilising non-linear dynamical systems theory as a complement to stochastic processes. Current models presume that time variations of a channel are described by stationary stochastic processes. We will model the effects of the local scattering environment to get better descriptions for the time variations. This approach will result in predictors for received power, SINR and channel parameters. The first part of the study includes analysis of statistical dependencies in measured mobile radio channel responses. This will establish the non-linear structure of channel evolution in measured data. The second part focus on selection of model structures and on-line learning algorithms for the non-linear predictors. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) INTHF Vienna has a proven track record in non-linear analysis/modelling and mobile communication. This creates a unique environment for me to develop my knowledge in this field. I hope to bring back valuable insights in models and predictors for time varying channels to my home institution in Uppsala. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22) Ericsson Radio Systems, Sweden, will provide data for the first study. INTHF Vienna has well established contacts with Siemens, Austria. A continuous exchange of ideas with these partners is expected.
