Project objective

Research objectives and content The objective is to gain control in the generation and photoreactivity of the triplet states of azoalkanes by inclusion inside zeolites. Azoalkanes are the cleanest source of carbon centered radicals. Thermal and photochemical denitrogenation originate radicals. Recently, their triplet states have been observed and characterized and their photochemical behavior has been stablished by carrying out spin-selective product distribution studies. Zeolites are cristalline alumino silicates whose three-dimensional structure is formed by channels and cavities. The free volumen inside the lattice can absorb appropiate-size molecules. It has been found that the photophysical and photochemical properties of these absorbed organic molecules can be modified. This work tries to apply this methodology to azoalkanes by incorporating them into zeolites to gain a more deep insight in the photochemistry of these substrates. The study of polarity and heavy-atom effects and the constrainement experimented by the organics guest inside the cavities are of very much inportance in this work. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The objective is to expand the employ of zeolites as controlers of the photophysical and photochemical properties of the organic inside. If this work success, we have gained control on these processes of one of the well known families of radical generators. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)
