Project objective
Research objectives and content The aim of the present study is to analyse the dispersal pattern and reaction norm of three species of lizards that differ in their habitat tolerance and explorational behaviour. We will study three related lizard species: Psammodromus algirus, Acanthodactylus erythrurus and Podarcis hispanica, The study will consist of: (I) An experiment of reciprocal transplantation of the I species offspring between two areas of different ecological characteristics that contain the three species. (2) A comparative study of those three species and Lacerta vivipara, which dispersal pattern is already known. (3) A phylogenetic analyses of the patterns of association observed in the groups of related genera: Psammodromus-Podarcis and Acanthodactylus-Lacerta (4) The study of the stopping rules of dispersal movement in Lacerta vivipara and relation to the suitability to settle in a new habitat. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The stopping rules of dispersal movement study in Lacerta vivipara and the analysis of the reciprocal transplantation experiment will be carried out in Paris (France). Field work and offspring monitoring at Spain during the first year breeding season and during the second year breeding season will be carried out in cooperation with a group of students from the Evolutionary Ecology Group in the Laboratoire d'Ecologie' (host institution).
