Project objective

Research objectives and content The research objectives of the project are theoretical and computationa In the theoretical part, the proposition is to confirm, extend and generalize the Indicator Function Statistical Average continuous phase Eulerian formalism to include phenomena such as heat and mass transfer between both phases as well as the deformation of dispersed elements. Also a systematic comparison between Lagrangian and Eulerian modelling strategies of the dispersed phase will be made. Later on, by means of a Basset-Boussinesq-Oseen equation that includes the respective terms, the aim is to try to eliminate as many of the present restrictions on the dispersed phase as possible. In the computational part, the previsions are to perform calculations o configurations of industrial interest such as pipes, sudden expansion and flow near walls, where experimental data exist. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The objective of the training is to familiarize the applicant with the numerical methods specific to dispersed phase Lagrangian modelling as well as training in the treatment of collisions between dispersed elements and walls. Benefits of this training would, principally, be the acquisition of experience in numerical Lagrangian strategies as a means of obtaining a global perspective of the formulation and calculation on Multiphase Flows. The petitioner hopes, in the near future, this work will lead to progress in the prediction methods of the detailed evolution of the dispersed elements in real systems of practical interest.
