Project objective

The aim of this project is to develop a system of three tools based on medical imaging (CT-Scan and MRI) and three-dimensional (3D) electrogoniometry. From these data and using computer graphics techniques, very useful kinematics information can be visualised together with the 3D computer bone models. The first tool of the system (based on the applicant's PhD research) wi use virtual markers set on the computer model surface to interpolate the joint kinematics parameters. The second tool will analyse the computer model volumetric parameters t determine joint kinematics. The third tool will get the kinematics data from 3D electrogoniometry. At last, real time motion simulation will occur from the data of any of the three tools. When achieved, this interactive system will be useful in the orthopaedics, surgical planning and follow-up of joint disorders.
