Project objective

SRFEls combines various knowledge, such as accelerator physics, FEL SRFELs provide bright and tunable coherent light in the UV at a high repetition rate. A SRFEL has first been used for spectroscopic applications theory, optics, magnetism, synchrotron radiation and applications from the at Super-ACO (France), for time-resolved fluorescence in biology and whole scientific community. For keeping in Europe a high level in this field, young scientists from one discipline should be trained in another two-color experiments in combination with synchrotron radiation in surface one, in the frame of this proposal, in order to acquire a complete physics. This proposal aims at exploiting the unique features and formation. Exchanges of post-doc from between facilities should facilitate potentialities for applications of SRFELs, in a UV spectral range down to a quicker development of European SRFELs, and allow to join common efforts 200 nm. This is the target operating wavelength in the development of for achieving the proposed goals. Regular workshop will provide European SRFELs, namely Super-ACO and DELTA.The SRFEL source quality will be demonstrated by:- opportunities for tutorial, and presentations of the work by students and;- temporal evolution measurements of FEL parameters post;-doctorates;- a selection of applications taking advantage from the different features of SRFELs.The FEL dynamics and its effect on the electron beam should be theoretically analysed for a better control and optimisation of the source. Nevertheless, the step towards shorter wavelengths requires a real technological development for the optics, because the laser mirrors are damaged in a hostile environment (the undulator producing the fundamental laser wavelength emits a spectrum extending in the X-ray range). A real REED program, with optical characterization and samples tests in collaboration with industrial manufacturers, should develop multi-dielectric UV mirrors for low gain FEL.
